CareersPlusResumes.com | Review

Careers Plus Resumes scored relatively well in our ranking for three reasons: they lead in affordability, their writers have solid credentials, and their guarantee is attractive.

Affordability is evident from a glance at their pricing. The writers are claimed to be CPRWs (Certified Professional Resume Writers), as well as former hiring officials. If so, that's a powerful combination to have working on your resume. And regarding the guarantee: a free resume revision if you don't land an interview within 90 days.

How it works:

Determine whether you need their entry level resume, or professional (if you're mid-career or mid-level management), or executive resume. There's a page for each, with upfront pricing and packages.

Place your order and complete their online questionnaire. Upload/fax an existing resume, if you have one. At that point you'll be assigned a resume writer who specializes most closely in your particular profession or discipline. You'll be contacted by your writer, who will arrange a one-on-one phone consultation to gather more information. You can do that chat via email if you prefer (Note: we advise going with the phone interview).

Your documents will be crafted and you'll receive a first draft via email within 24-48 hours. If everything is good, download the attachments (Word, PDF and ASCII file formats) and save them to your computer. If revisions are needed, you've got 90 days of free editing.

Here's what we liked:
  • The writers have hiring experience. Each writer has relevant certification, as you would expect with service of this caliber. But each also has a background that included executive-level hiring. That's a good insight to have when you're writing a client's resume.
  • Personalized service. We like the fact that a one-on-one phone consultation with your writer is a given.
  • Multiple file formats at no extra charge. Your finished resume comes to you in Word Document, PDF and ASCII file formats.
  • Extensive list of sample resumes are made available on the web site to give you an idea of quality of writing you can expect. We liked what we saw.
  • Resume guarantee. If you haven't landed an interview in that time, get a no-charge rewrite.
  • Pricing is attractive for the quality.
Here's what we didn't like:

The Better Business Bureau notes a "pattern of complaints" for this company ranging from inattentive customer service to resumes not being delivered within the specified time frames. In fairness, one has to take into account a company's size and volume of transactions when considering customer complaints, and this is a sizable company that writes a lot of resumes. It's also worth noting that management has made overtures toward establishing procedures to more effectively resolve customer issues -- also reported by the BBB. That said, we remain concerned.

In summary, Careers Plus Resumes has some attractive features going for it: from an easy-to-navigate website to a solid guarantee. And pricing is some of the most reasonable we've seen, given the quality of the product (as evidenced by their posted samples).

Given our concerns over the BBB report, we're not sold, and we would advise prospective customers to balance the pros and cons to their own satisfaction. And if need be, consider other companies we've reviewed -- including our Top Ranked company ResumeWriters.com, our review of which can be found HERE.
